You’ve heard it said that if you do what makes you happy then you’re fulfilling your purpose.
But today, I have come to dispel that notion. Your purpose has absolutely nothing to do with you. Your purpose is mainly about the One who gave it to you and the people He hopes you being obedient to your call will impact.
Before you were born, your purpose was set. Case in point:
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10 NLT
It is an absolute pleasure when your dreams and purpose align but that is not always the case for everyone.
Everyone has something unique that they’ve been created for but when you disregard the calling on your life and disobey the One who called you, another will be raised to do it.
Case in point: King Saul and King David
I haven’t found my specific call yet but as a Christian, we all have one call. One purpose. That is to give God glory.
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 28:19 NLT
Many see purpose and calling to be about the big things like being a pastor of a church but it’s not always so. Your pastor is human and there are people whose purpose is to cover them (pastors) so they can keep pastoring.
Someone just like me is probably asking how do I know my specific purpose. The answer is simple. Read your Bible. Spend time in God’s word. Pray to Him to reveal it.
One thing we must know is that we didn’t create ourselves and so we can never have all the answers. The manufacturer of any product always leaves a manual so people can use it and the Bible is our manual for living life. To succeed at this life thing, we need to read the manual.
Now, someone is wondering if we all have specific purposes then why am I saying that it’s not about us. Because it’s honestly not about us. And that’s why people get switched out all the time. They lose God’s anointing and the things they used to do feel empty and superficial.
Imagine a worship leader with a beautiful voice who begins to perform for the applause of men instead of ministering to people so God gets His glory. What do you think will happen? Just like David was anointed as king and did exploits in God’s name so will another worshipper be raised for God’s glory.
So, my message is simple. Your purpose is more about God and those you whose lives you’re supposed to impact.
N. B: When the message of this post came to me a couple of days ago, I was excited but to be very honest. I procrastinated writing it and now I don’t know if the fire and the message has been really been conveyed.
P. S: I have a podcast episode about purpose. Kindly check it out here : https://anchor.fm/baawa-unfiltered/episodes/Purpose-ear933
Thank you 😊

It is really not about us. Thanks for the reminder, Baawa. I don’t know about the fire, but I guess it’s still in there cos this message hit me. God bless you.
