Her Dream Wedding

Her wedding is finally here! Tawiah could hardly believe it. She’s getting married to the man of her dreams or so she thought. She didn’t quite know what to expect today. He’d assured her he’d handle everything so her family need not do anything. The last out of eight children, everyone was absolutely thrilled about today. The baby of the family is about to be joined in holy matrimony to a gentleman. In their town, very few people had gone through the educational system. She herself had a spotty educational background. ” Mama!”, her three-year-old daughter, Bernice shouted jostling her from her thoughts. She stared at her little girl and smiled. Yes, she’d made some mistakes as a teenager but life’s given her one of the best things- her daughter. Today, she’d be able to give her a stable home life. She’s met a man, a gentleman. Ernest was highly educated, he was basically out of her league yet he chose her to be his life partner. What more could she ask for? Not much by the look of things because he was singularly in charge of planning their wedding. He accepted no help from her family. It made her terribly nervous because a fan of surprises she was not. This is her wedding day and she knew not what to expect. Well, laying around thinking about it won’t let her find out. What she needed to do was get ready and that’s what Tawiah did. Fresh from the shower, she came to meet her room filled with female relatives and friends who’d come to get ready with her for her big day. She was so giddy with excitement now that everyone was here. They weren’t an affluent family so her cousins, Baaba and Naana did her hair and makeup. She could barely recognize herself. She looked stunning. “Wow!”, Ewurama exclaimed, “Ernest, is not going you when you walk down that aisle.” That sent a ripple of laughter across the room. “It’s time!” Aunt Lizzy said. She could barely contain herself at this point. She’s about to wear that very beautiful dress Ernest got for her. It was the dress of her dreams. A little off the shoulder and short sleeved with a long skirt that was A-lined. The beautiful embroidery at the waistline was everything. She felt like a princess awaiting her prince. With tears in her eyes, she watched her mom place the headpiece on her head. “May God be with you, my child”, she said. As she stayed seated, her family and friends formed a circle around her and prayed for her as she started a new journey. Bernice, her daughter appeared right after the prayer was said looking like the angel she is. Her role today was the flower girl. She looked very happy. Her elder brother, Joseph was driving to the church. As they piled into the car, her mom covered her face with the veil. As they approached the church, she noticed that it wasn’t opulently decorated and that was fine by her. She wasn’t showy so that meant Ernest kept her tastes in mind. Soon, it was time to walk into the ceremony. Her father was not in her life and so her uncle, George walked her down the aisle. My gosh, Ernest looks so dashing in that grey suit he has on, she thought to herself. In a blink of an eye, they’d said the vows and exchanged rings. She could hardly believe it. She was Mrs Tawiah Roberts. Who would’ve thought that a lowly girl like her would marry a gentleman like Ernest? No one that’s for sure. All around her, people were cheering and congratulating them. She felt like a queen. “My dear beautiful wife,” Ernest said interrupting her thoughts, ” ready for the party?” they smiled and waved as they were whisked away to the reception venue. As they got closer, the view took her breath away. She couldn’t believe it. Everything she’d always imagined it to be was right before her eyes. She looked at her husband with eyes glistening with tears and said thank you for choosing me and loving me. This was everything she’d dreamed of and much much more. I love you, she said and he replied I love you much much more and carried her in his arms and strolled into the venue.
