Forget The Former

In 2024, the word for my family was in Isaiah 43:18-19 and it says,

“But forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
19 For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Throughout the year, I saw the Lord fulfil what He said in His words. I was thinking of writing on the need to focus and be in your present, and I looked at the verse of the day from the bible verse and saw this verse again. A voice said, “I am not done. All things new.” I then said to myself that God is really about to show me how good it can really get.

We have started a brand-new year. So many of us are still hung up on the happenings of the last year. God is telling you to forget it and stay in the moment. To stay right in the here and now because He is about to do something in the moment and you cannot afford to miss it. You have a new book before you, and you can decide to copy from the old book or you can write a new story. One that has a glorious ending. Every year, we make resolutions, and we abandon them and are left dissatisfied. This year, let’s do something new. Let us follow through. During the crossover service word ministration, my pastor said you cannot do the old things at a new place. He was referencing the scripture in Luke 5:36–39, which says, Then Jesus gave them this illustration: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and uses it to patch an old garment. For then the new garment would be ruined, and the new patch wouldn’t even match the old garment.

37 “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the new wine would burst the wineskins, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. 38 New wine must be stored in new wineskins. 39 But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. ‘The old is just fine,’ they say.”

In this new year, just as God is re-echoing to me and my house, we should forget the former things because He is about to do something new. I believe this is also a word for another person. Forget yesterday and focus on today because, in this moment, God is doing something new.

Happy New Year, and may we testify of the Lord’s goodness at the end of it all.
