Reflections

It’s Good Friday and many believers worldwide are thinking or talking about what happened on the cross some 2000 years ago. Some will make bold statements when they watch some of the many movies that depict a fraction of what really happened the time Jesus was crucified.

My family was discussing the movie Passion of Christ this morning as we watched it and my sister said that many people will see the suffering of Christ and declare that they would stop sinning but right after the movie, they would sin.

So, I thought about it and I realized that all those years ago that I watched the movie and I made such bold statements that didn’t reflect my true heart. I was afraid of being left behind when Christ came the second time so, I used the Easter season to check my saved box.

It is only recently that it finally sunk in that true repentance starts from the heart. If we honor God with our lips but our hearts are far from Him then we would be better off living a sinful life because God recognizes not the acts we do but rather our heart posture while we do those acts.

I’ve been studying the book of Isaiah and thus far I have come to see is that God desperately wanted our heart. He requires true repentance. The first five chapters of the book of Isaiah talk about repenting and changing from our wicked ways lest the Lord unleashed His wrath upon us.

One thing I have noticed in this season of the Covid-19 pandemic is that we have time. Enough time to reflect on our life and to determine whether we’ll continue on the path we were on or if we need to change paths because our former paths are outside of God’s will.

The Easter festivities are here once again but let’s do something different this time. Let’s not just let our mouths write checks we can’t cash. Let us truly decide to change and repent. Because Isaiah 6 makes me understand that without true repentance we’re unable to fulfill the calling of God in our lives.

More than anything, God wants our hearts and the sacrifice on the cross was done knowing full well we might not appreciate it but He did it anyway. God has been so faithful to us and I believe that this is the season we show our faithfulness to Him. The word for this season is REPENT! Another one is BE FAITHFUL JUST AS I HAVE BEEN. Let’s not forget about testifying of HIS GOODNESS!

“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I have seen this verse used a lot during this season. Many have selected that which benefits them and have left out the most important part. They chose to ask the Lord to heal their land but they forget that the healing comes after humbling and submitting themselves to God and also most importantly from turning from their wicked ways.

Our God is good and kind and loving but He’s also Holy and Righteous. He’s jealous as well. Anything we put before Him is an idol and that He detects because we succumb to the desires of our flesh and we become wicked and unjust.

This is the right time to perform a heart check and repent of our wicked ways.
