Instant Mom Episode 2

Today was just like every other day in Kara’s eyes. She’s at home unlike her friends because it’s a work day and they’re working. It’s a lonely life she thinks to herself as she gets out of bed and little later than normal. Her morning routine is very simple. She opens her eyes, says a prayer and spend time reading her Bible and devotional book. Kara is a very devout Christian girl. Nothing has ever been constant in her life except her faith in God. She’d been through some of everything in her short life but somehow she’s still here, alive. Kara has encountered quite a number of near-death incidents than she’d like. For starters, she nearly died in childbirth. Elena was in labour for a gruelling 24 hours and you can imagine a prolonged labour a little over 2 decades ago where modern medicine wasn’t advanced in the backwater region of Windy Bay. It was a harrowing experience that had never been forgotten which also strengthened their mother-daughter bond. Elena was a strong and healthy woman but 24 hours of labour can really take a toll on a person. She was very weak getting to the last end of her 24 hours and Kara was extremely distressed as reported by the doctors. They always said if the process had delayed an extra five minutes, both mother and baby would’ve been a statistic. Thus, marking her first day on earth as her first brush with death. Now with an entrance like that, how different could her life really be? Kara’s terrible twos were actually terrible. With her dad gone a lot because of his job, Elena was basically a single mom. She had a full-time job as a mom and a secretary at Windy Bay Elementary School. It was really tough doing both but they weren’t well to do and she really couldn’t afford not working full-time. An incident happened that made her reconsider working full-time. Here’s how it went down; little Kara was playing outside while her mom cooked on the old fashioned coal pot and since her mom was tired, she fell asleep for a few minutes, what jolted her from her slumber was the wailing of her toddler who had gotten herself burned by playing with the fire. During those terrible twos through to her grade schooler years, the emergency room felt like a second home to Elena. She was on a first name basis with the entire ER team. As a teen, Kara did a complete 180 degrees that altered her life in more ways than you could possibly imagine.
